Project time: 2016 – 2017

Budget: 520 000 kr

Funding: SIP Produktion2030

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project w as to create long-term cooperation betw een Chalmers, Sw erea IVF and Modul-System. An important part goalobjective w as to disseminate know ledge developed in MATFLEX in a w ider circle, especially at Chalmers students and to staff at the participating company Modul-System.
The goals have been met, as know ledge is transferred and cooperation is progressing

Results and expected effects

The project has delivered the follow ing results

  1. A project w ork has been carried out betw een Chalmers and Modul systems.

In addition, staff from the Modul system have participated in a sheetmaking course, where some parts of the material w ere taken from a new ly acquired Masters course at Chalmers (via another project in the Education section of Production 2030).
Technology dissemination of the project at Elmia Subcontractor 2016, Chalmers Internships, and lectures on Roll Forming Colloquium in Darmstadt.

Approach and implementation

The project manager at MATFLEX, Boel Wadman, has been stationed at the Chalmers Institute for Materials and Manufacturing Technology for a total of 20 days during the project period and has w orked there and elsewhere to transfer know ledge from the project to staff and students at Chalmers, mainly w ithin her field of specialization sheet metal forming. Know ledge transfer has taken place through w ork in the Institutional Council, supervision of project w orkers, development of industrial courses, and lectures at Chalmers, Elmia and at conferences.

Tailored Tool Surfaces for Robust and Sustainable Hot Stamping

Tooling constitutes a significant part in the economical investment of the hot stamping process. Significant benefits in production economy and environmental benefits can be attained by improving the tribological performance in hot forming operations of automotive components. The main idea of this project is to create tailored tool surfaces on dies made from cheaper and easier to manufacture tool steel for the hot stamping of ultra-high strength steels.
