Theories on inclusive diversity and gender equality and how these can relate to sustainable industry and production and the role of humans in technology.

Aim

The course aims to give a basic introduction to theories on inclusive diversity and gender equality and how these can relate to sustainable industry and production and the role of humans in technology … and challenges from the ongoing green and digital industrial transformation.

The course is carried out with two physical meetings (two-day meetings, e.g. lunch-lunch) 30-31 Oct and 20-21 Nov 2023 in Uppsala where it also will be possible to participate via zoom/teams. During the meetings, there will be lectures on theories combined with workshops.

Day 1 –  Gender in leadership, organisation, and technology.

13.00         Welcome! Presentation of participants, teachers, course syllabus and examination.

13.30         Lecture: Introduction to gender theories. (Nina Kivinen)

14.30         Workshop: Gender and leadership. (Nina Kivinen)

15.00         Coffee break.

15.30         Lecture: Gender and organisation. (Lena Abrahamsson)

16.30         Lecture: Masculinities and technology. (Ulf Mellström)

18.00          End of the day and joint dinner.

Day 2 – Practices for inclusive diversity and gender equality.

9.00            Lecture and workshop: What is diversity and how to do it? (Nina Kivinen)

10.00          Coffee break.

10.30         Cont. What is diversity and how to do it? (Nina Kivinen)

11.30         Introduction of the exam assignment. The PhD students present their plans on what to write the course paper about. For example how they plan to apply gender and diversity theories on their own research or on a case connected to their research field or work life experiences. Max 5 minutes per PhD student.

12.30          End of the day.

Day 3 – Gender in engineering and industrial production.

Place: Uppsala – Fakultetsrum 1, room no 106150 in Nya Ångström (House 10)

13.00.        Welcome back! Recap of what we did last time. Presentation of the agenda for these two days.

13.30         Lecture: How is engineering gendered? (Ulf Mellström)

15.00          Coffee break.

15.30         Lecture: Gender and the green and digital industrial transformation – examples from the mining industry. (Lena Abrahamsson)

17.00         Discussion: How to work with gender equality in industry and male dominated organisations. (Lena Abrahamsson)

18.00          End of the day and joint dinner.

Day 4 – Summing up.

9.00            Some key take aways and concluding discussion on what we have learned during the course. What theoretical and practical knowledge can we use from the inclusive diversity and gender perspectives? (Nina Kivinen, Ulf Mellström and Lena Abrahamsson).

9.30            The PhD students present their draft course papers. Max 15 min per PhD student.

10.00          Coffee break.

10.30         Cont. paper presentations.

Fee for late drop-out

This course is included in the Produktion2030 program, and it is therefore free of charge for PhD student members of Graduate School Produktion2030. However, in case of drop-out later than 3 weeks before course start, a fee of 1 000 SEK per course credit will be charged the student’s home institution.
