Automatic inspection and other possibilities at the introduction of digital X-ray radiography within the manufacturing industry

Project time: 2015 – 2016

Budget: 750 000 kronor

The project will explore the customer value and competitive advantage with digital industrial X-ray inspection in the manufacturing industry.

The objective of this project is to concretize and exemplify the huge potential to increased customer value and increased competitiveness that is hidden in the introduction of digital radiography within the high quality manufacturing industry. The introduction facilitates both automatic analysis of the nondestructive radiographic testing and increased information extraction from the measurement data, which will increase the competitiveness of Swedish manufacturing industry as well as contribute to the development of a sustainable and resource effective production. However, the introduction of digital radiography is slow within Swedish manufacturing industry.  Large initial costs in combination with difficulties to recognize the increased customer value compared to continuing with analog film X-ray inspection is considered to be probable reasons. The project will concretize and exemplify this increased value. The companies that have come a long way (initiated the introduction of digital radiography) as well as those who have not come that far yet (however have conducted experimental capability studies) are both represented in the project. The idea with that scheme is to both lift the automatic analysis and the increased information extraction from the measurement data at the companies that have already come far in the digitalization introduction, but also to press the introduction of digital industrial radiography in the Swedish manufacturing industry in general.
