Sharing knowledge, innovation and needs-driven development of product-service integrated products.

Åsa started as a PhD student in the research programme ProViking and is now an Associate Professor in product development with focus product-service innovation. Åsa is involved, as a project manager and a researcher, in a project that focuses to support small and medium-sized enterprises’ knowledge sharing activities with specific regard to the peripheral regions. She also runs a qualification project that aims to strengthen knowledge sharing within needs-driven innovation for integrated product solutions.

Research

Åsa Ericson presented and defended her PhD thesis in December 2007. The dissertation focused needs-driven product innovation within the applied area of manufacturing industry. Particular emphasis was placed on methods for involving engineers and customers of the company in the early stages. The study identified the different views on acquisition of customer needs as a challenge for integrated products. 

Åsa works as a researcher, as well as Dpt. Head of the subject Product Innovation, at Luleå University. She is also a visiting researcher at the Innovation Engineering, Lund University. The research interest focuses a user-centred perspective in order to strengthen the innovation capacity of the company and its employees. The scope of research has expanded to, besides the manufacturing industry also include, for example, the public sector and the tourism industry.

Åsa is in teaching activities involved in courses on innovation, creative product development, needfinding and product development processes, but also to some extent in management of innovation projects. Course development and practical pedagogics are also a concern.
