Total offerings in manufacturing industries in Sweden – a lift

Project time: 2013 – 2016

Budget: 4 300 000 kronor

Potential to increase sales is large in companies that manage to switch from supplying goods with strong price competition to develop and deliver total offerings with a higher perceived value for the customer. The project aims to contribute to more manufacturing SMEs in Sweden realizing this potential. The goal is to develop and pilot test a scalable model for coaching SME´s shift towards creating and delivering innovative and sustainable total offerings and thus enhanced competitiveness. The project will also develop a plan for further scaling up from 2017 onwards.

The project addresses the SIO program´s area of strength ´Production of service-based products´ with challenge ´Developing skills and enhance the development of service-based products´. Sales are expected to increase in the order of 30‑60% within five years for companies that are able to switch from supplying goods with strong price competition to develop and deliver comprehensive totalofferings with a higher perceived customer value. Despite this, many manufacturing companies sees services as a peripheral activity. The project aims to contribute to more manufacturing SMEs in Sweden to realize this potential by developing and pilot testing a scalable model for the transformation and increased competitiveness, and a plan for further upscaling 2017 onwards. The development and implementation project is conducted 2013-2016 in cooperation between Swerea IVF, Linköping University, Centre for Service Research, regional nodes/networks and manufacturing SMEs in Sweden. The results of the companies are expected to maintain a high level of innovation and transformation contribute to the renewal of Swedish industry. Implementation in three phases: requirements and concept model, verify model/create results in business and upscaling. Communication is continuous throughout the project through established and experimental channels and forms.
