RFID technology has never before been integrated into climate screens. The purpose is to extend the life of the screen and to help product developers optimize the screens properties. The project will benefit the Swedish position in this market segment, as Svensson is a world-leading manufacturer of climate screens for greenhouses and produce these screens in Sweden. The vision is that each screen, by adopting RFID technology, will be able to collect information about the climate in the greenhouse, thereby helping growers to optimize their crops. In addition, the collected information will also be very useful for the producer in their development and design process.

This project is composed of actors in different sectors with unique and complementary scientific and technological skills, enabling a complete chain recognizing the great potential of the link between climate, information technology, environmental issues (eg energy saving) and production. Svensson’s control of the whole production chain increases the ability to rapidly perform production and field tests.

The project uses commercially available RFID readers, RFID tags and sensors to produce an integrated prototype. The prototype will be tested in laboratory environment, and the results from these tests are used to install a prototype screen in a greenhouse.

The project aim is to evaluate RFID tags for moisture – and temperature information storage integrated into a climate screen. Trials will be carried out in laboratory as well as in greenhouses.
