Quality assurance of laser welds

Quality assurance of laser welds

Project time: 2021 – 2024

Budget: 7 500 000 kr

The main goal for this project is to develop methods in order to ensure quality and optimize laser welded and ultrasonically welded komponents.

Engelsk projektsammanfattning (max 1500 tecken): The goal of the program “Production2030” is to increase the Swedish manufacturing industry’s global competitiveness by building a sustainable and resilient manufacturing industry. With the Swedish national sustainability goal of becoming fossil-free by 2045, it is natural and crucial for universities, research institutes and companies to build interdisciplinary research groups to develop new and sustainable manufacturing techniques, for example for electric vehicles. This project aims to develop methods for quality assurance and optimization of laser and ultrasonically welded components. To reduce the production time for, for example, new electrical machines, battery packs and also welded components in other areas, a multisensor-based system for monitoring welding quality will be developed. With the help of machine learning, the system will be monitored in real time with data collected by the system. Digital twins of the welding processes will be developed and the latest machine learning techniques will be combined to investigate how different parameters affect the weld. As a result, waste is reduced and a resource-efficient production can be realized.
