PROLOC – Strategic decision support for localization of production

Project time: 2010 – 2013

Budget: 5 970 000 kr

The purpose of the ProLoc project is to create a new type of decision model to assist in the production location decisions, being increasingly important in a world with high rates of change.

A production strategy for tomorrow´s businesses must be able to manage and evaluate a whole new set of factors and parameters affecting the choice of production location in the global production system. The purpose of the ProLoc project is to create a new type of decision model to assist in the production location decisions, being increasingly important in a world with high rates of change and finite resources. Against this background, the decision model for effective location decisions will be based on a manufacturing economics approach that integrates factors relating to the production systems portfolio and product life cycle. The goal is that the decision model clarifies the production performance based on both specific manufacturing process capabilities as well as administrative factors at different levels related to quality assurance and material supply of the product lifecycle phases. The goal is to create a decision model in which all relevant parameters for a location decisions are quantified and valued, and that each parameter is integrated into the decision support model for production location.
