Core plant Excellence (COPE)

Project time: 2016 – 2019

The purpose of the COPE-project is to increase the ability of Swedish industries to maintain and strengthen the role as a core plant, with undiminished competitive capabilities.

The aim of the COPE-project is to contribute with tools that can help Swedish industries to compete with excellence. The manufacturing industry is becoming increasingly globalised and Swedish factories are often designated with the role as core plants within their organisations. It is a role that signifies responsibility for managing and acting as an intermediary in the organisation’s development of technology, processes and working methods, for coordinating global cooperation and also for ensuring effective knowledge exchange between factories. It is a challenging role, but it has substantial potential. The purpose of the project is therefore to survey which capabilities are necessary in order to successfully maintain and strengthen the role as a core plant.
The expected result is a process that can be used as a tool by industries, in order for them to design their core plants after the best practise possible and in accordance with the prerequisites of their organisation. The project is driven by Mälardalen University (MDH) and Jönköping University (JU) with funding from The Knowledge Foundation. It will run during 2016-2019 and case studies are carried
out in collaboration with the companies Alfa Laval, AstraZeneca, Bombardier, Volvo GTO, Volvo CE, Volvo Cars, GKN Aerospace and SKF.
