How to improve efficiency, innovation and lead-time in the development of complex engineering products by collaborative multidisciplinary optimization.

Johan Ölvander is professor in Engineering Design at Linköping University. He has a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Fluid and Mechatronic Systems both from Linköping University. Professor Ölvander is deputy head of the Department of management and Engineering and leads the Machine Design division at Linköping University.

Research

Johan Ölvanders research interests are within the field of product design and development, and specifically how simulation and optimization techniques can be employed in order to support the development of complex engineering systems. This includes the efficient usage of CAE-tools in the product development process. Special interest is put on the field of multidisciplinary and multiobjcetive optimization. The focus is on real world applications where extensive dynamic simulation models are used to predict the properties of the systems. Industrial application areas include: industrial robotics, aeronautics, aircraft systems, fluid power systems, and automotive applications.

Dr Ölvander has authored around 100 papers in scientific journals, book chapters and conferences proceedings.
