The research is mainly about how product areas in the um and nm scale can radically change and control important functions - perceived quality, friction, environment and economy. The research is also about how new exciting, sustainable and digital Additive manufacturing methods in plastic and metal can create better and more sustainable production. Here, the surface technology comes in again as an enabler.

BG Rosén is a curious mechanical engineer who is good at seeing wholes, but also working hard with the implementation of research and teaching at all levels from the cleanroom lab and industry to boardrooms and academies.

Research

The research BG Rosén conducts is based on measurement technology as a means of understanding, specifying and demanding the manufacturing process and the function of the product. The research ends up in the average between the product’s function and its production, with a focus on the properties and integrity of functional surfaces.

Functional surface applications are sourced from both the automotive industry’s drivelines and bodywork, interior details in various plastic materials such as dental implants and bacterial repellent surfaces for medical applications. Recently, research has also included in-line measurement of surfaces in robotic production sections such as application of surface technology to understand and further develop Additive manufacturing processes.

The research group runs and has run a large number of EU, SSF and Vinnova funded projects in collaboration with the Swedish and foreign industry and institutes.

The research group regularly collaborates with the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany and the Universities of Lyon, Aalen (Germany), Huddersfield and

BG has a lot of collaboration with Chalmers and Jönköping Technical University regarding functional surface research and the group has with their doctoral students enrolled at Chalmers graduate 9 doctorates with functional surface and production orientation.
