Welcome to a PhD and practitioners course where product development methods and product innovations for aerospace applications will be explored, in terms of scientific research in the field, combined with practical examples. Aerospace applications currently in use will be studied along the course, as well as future visionary aerospace innovation solutions. Participants can develop their own product ideas along the course.

Welcome with your subscription to the course! (prolonged date until Oct 10, 2022)

The course starts in October 2022 (online), contains a number of seminars, workshops and study visits. It ends at Rymdforum 2023 in Kiruna.

The course is given by Swedish Aerospace Research Center (SARC) and the Graduate School of Space Technology (LTU/national), in close collaboration with ACS (Aerospace Cluster Sweden) and partly funded by the strategic research program  Innovair and the EU regional program RITSpace.

Course objectives: (1) to provide a theoretical reference base for conducting research in product development for aerospace applications, and (2) to introduce participants to carry out research and innovation activities in aerospace industry, including engineering and innovation management perspectives.

Learning objectives and Examination (PhD course): After the course the PhD candidate participant should have:
– Gained increased awareness of research on the product development and innovation process, especially applied to aerospace industry.
– Improved their ability to critically review and make use of established and recent research literature.
– Independently written a critical review of research literature on product development and innovation, especially applied to aerospace industry.
– Trained evaluation of other course participants’ work.
– Improved their ability to communicate orally and in written about product development and innovation, especially applied to aerospace industry, in a research context.
The course is examined through active participation, oral and written assignments, as presented and discussed in the course during the time schedule

For industrial participants: The learning objectives and examination are decided on an individual basis.

Diploma: All participant will achieve a signed course diploma describing the content of the course.

Course start and events: We started with an information meeting in Kiruna, Aug 25, at 14.00. At this meeting the dates for upcoming  events included in the course were decided:

12-13 October 2022: Space Innovation Forum (SIF), Kiruna, Hotel Scandic (arranged by LTU). (Start at 14.00 Wednesday, finish 17.30 Thursday. Please make travel reservations as soon as possible. Hotels: Scandic, but also Malmfältens Folkhögskola or Camp Ripan, by the mountain/ski tracks) are possible, with 30 min local bus transfer. Reserve also train/airport transfer.)

Early February 2023: MODPROD , Linköping pre-event, combined with ACS (arranged by KTH/LiU). Note: the event 2023 is not yet announced.

5-8 March 2023: Rymdforum/Space Forum, Kiruna (arranged by LTU and IRF). Note: the event 2023 is not yet announced.

Lectures (additional to the events): All lectures (2-3 hours each) will be given online (zoom) but could be given partly as a physical meeting (on site e.g. at LTU, LiU, KTH, Chalmers) for participants that physically are at the same place. Will be arranged by the participants along the course.
